Jackie Hollingsbee grew up on the North Coast of Cornwall. Even though she’s lived and worked all over the world: Southeast Asia, Spain, Scotland, etc. all of which have informed her work in various ways, Cornwall always drew her home.
The results of her work reflect the hard and soft surfaces of the locale and the margins between land sea and air. On the wild days these can both inhibit and inspire her creations, so lines become blurred.
She finds inspiration in the Cornish harbours, the shapes of the boats and fishing equipment which blend into the landscape, and she tries to express movement in her beautiful abstracted artwork.
Established in St Ives, Jackie is influenced by the light and the wildness of Penwith. Having studied at St Ives Arts Club and undertaken courses at the St Ives and Newlyn Schools of Painting as well as Penzance School of Painting, she has been influenced by so many earlier Penwith painters and began to move into more abstracted work.
Textures fascinate her and she constantly finds interest in the interaction between colour and tone, the earth, rock, sand, water and the the manmade structures throughout the county. These textures are reflected in abstract application of paint along with collage of the varying materials she uses.
