Inspired by the local scenery, Hazel loves to explore the coastal paths with her camera to find the inspiration for her unique style of art.
She looks for contrasts and details in her studies that one might not have noticed in the moment. Each composition tells a story and leads the viewer into her paintings, inviting the viewer to a longer immersion.
Her chosen medium is reduction cut lino, which entails cutting and printing each layer from the same block until there’s hardly anything left on the surface of the lino. This is what creates her limited editions as further prints just aren’t possible.
This is a very time consuming process: she has to be very patient, making tiny cuts to create each finished work, but what she loves most is the magic of seeing the print appear before her eyes as she reveals each layer. Her editions are somewhat variable as they are all printed by hand and she makes slight adjustments to the colours and printed areas as she works through the process, making each piece completely unique.
