Andrew Barrowman paints predominantly en plein air as well as from his studio in Redruth. He loves to walk, observing the inspirational Cornish landscape and coastline as the light changes throughout the day and from season to season.
He recently won The Bowyer Drawing Prize at The New English Art Club annual exhibition and won a Highly Commended Award at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists summer exhibition.
Whilst walking his dog he always packs his sketchbook and records his observations, using oil sticks, charcoal and watercoluor, capturing the atmosphere of a place in all its glorious weathers. From these sketches and oil studies, his paintings are tweaked back in his studio. Winter light is a particular favourite which he endures frozen fingers and toes for, sketching in the cold damp Cornish mizzle!
Andrew has exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts, New English Art Club and The Pastel Society in Mall Galleries London. He has a fine book on art and teaches oil painting at St Ives School of Painting, Truro Arts adult Workshop programme as well as running small group sessions at his own studio.
